The Comings and Goings
of the Ku Klux Klan
Deadline: Monday, October 15, 2012 by 08:00

The Ku Klux Klan, often called the KKK or the Klan, is a name of three distinct past and present organizations in the United States. The KKK is often considered a hate group or a terrorist organization because of its tactics to scare minorities or other un-American groups. The origins of the KKK can be traced back to Reconstuction when it began as a secret society that opposed civil rights for African Americans.

Answer the questions about the Ku Klux Klan below on the blog:

1. After the Civil War, the Ku Klux Klan have been more visible and threatening depending on the political and social climate of the times. What three time periods or years have the KKK been in existence?

2. Looking at the three time periods, what major events were occurring in the United States (and around the world) at the same times of the Ku Klux Klan's existence?

3. What minorities or social groups have been targeted by the Ku Klux Klan over time?

4. Why would an organization like the KKK still exist today? Why would someone want to be a part of such a group?

1. The three periods years were from 1865 to 1874, the second one from 1915 to 1950 and the third one from after the second world war to today.
2. At the first period happen that Ulysses S Grant did not sign a document in 1870-1871 where after that klan was and had so many terrorist. In the second period ku klux klan form another band in the first world war was made and this group was going against the jews for effect of propaganda. In the third period the ku klux klan was against the civil rights movement.
3.The social groups or minorities that ku klux klan attack were indians or native americans, jews and small groups of people very poor.
4.I think kkk still exist today for the terrorist and maybe someone want doesn't like some poor people and the want to kill them so they go to kkk.

Hey Mr. Hendricks,

1. The 3 periods of that the KKK were in existence were when they started in 1865 to 1874, the other time period that came after was 1915 to 1950 and the last time period that they were at their peak was in 1960 to 1967.

2. At the around the same time of the KKK, during 1865 and 1874 in America , Ulysses S. Grant was elected president, and the Congress passed the Resumption Act, and in during 1915 to 1950 World War II had begun. And during the last period of time the Ku Klux Klan gets very angry because the Civil RIghts Act was passed by Congress.

3. The social groups or minorities that the KKK were targeting were mainly the African Americans, but they also targeted poor whites, immigrants they they blamed on the elections of the Radical Republicans, and after the First World War they started targeting Jews, Roman Catholics, communists, socialists, and anybody they thought to be foreigners.

4. I think that the KKK may still exist today because some people still have backgrounds and roots from the KKK, leading them to believe that they are superior to the blacks or any of the other groups that were targeted by the KKK. I think some people may also still want to be apart of these terrorist groups because they might think it is cool or because they might still believe in the old ways, and are still angry about the loss of the Civil War and that Radical Republicans came into Congress.
Thanks for listening!

1.The 3 periods when the KKK came into existence were from 1865 to 1874, 1915 to 1950 and from 1960 to 1967.
2. The first time the KKK came into existence was when Ulysses S. Grant was elected president of america, the second period of time was when the world war 2 started and the third period of time was when the civil rights act was passed by congress.
3.The KKK mainly targeted the blacks but they also targeted poor people, jewish people, native americans and many other foreigners.
4.I think that the KKK till exist today because of old teachings by grandfathers or grandmothers, giving influence to younger generations to have the same point of view. People would want to be part of the group because of their opinion, some people have a problem with other people from other countries.

1) thirst started in 1865 to 1874.
2) second were in 1915 to 1950.
3) third the last one were in 1960 to 1967.

2. During this three periods in the world happened some events:
1) During thirst period in 1865 to 1874 in America was chosen president, it was Ulysses S. Grant.
2) During second period in 1915 to 1950 begun Second World War.

3. The KKK mainly targeted on Black People, Poor People. And since 1920 to Jews, Catholics, Communists and also Chinese. But general they wanted to kill state officials and the federal government.

4. I think that the KKK still exist today, because for this few reasons:
1) People hate this minorities or social groups.
2) They are terrorists and they want to kill somebody.
3) Maybe they want to revenge for past wrongs of their ancestors or themselves.

Thank you for listening.

1. The 3 periods of the KKK were in 1865 to 1874 when they just started, the other time was 1915 to 1950 and the last time period that they were at their peak was in 1960 to 1967.

4. I think that KKK can be possible be now still, because people still have roots from the KKK. I think there are many people who believe in old ways, and they think that being some kind of old KKK is cool. Or they just do it because they still can not handle the the loose in the Civil War

Hello Mr. Hendricks,
1) The three time periods, in which KKK was in existence are: from 1865-1874. From 1915- 1950. And from 1960 to 1967.
2) From 1865 to 1870 there was a Reconstruction. From 1865- 1900 there was a Jim Crows Law. From 1869, there was The Golden Spike. In 19th Century: From 1914-1918 there was a World War I. After a few time, in 1939-1945 there was a second world war happening. From 1920-1933, the Three Amendment happened: The 19th, 20th and 21st. And in 1964 The Civil Rights Act had happened.
3) There are 4 groups, which The KKK were targeting the most, and they are: Homosexuals, the black or non-white people, Catholics, and Non-Christians, people who were not Christians.
4) I think, that the KKK is still exsists today, probably not legal, but exists. The people are joinng it, maybe because of their roots, or maybe because they just want to join it, without any reason. And I think, that the KKK still exsists today to help United States with their problems that they have.

1. The three time periods of year have the KKK in existence are from 1865-1874. From 1915- 1950 and from 1960 to 1967.

2. At the same period there was the Reconstruction in 1865 to 1870, the Jim Crows Law in 1865- 1900, the Golden Spike in 1869, the World War I in 1914-1918 and in 1939-1945 there was startin the Second world war.

3.The four groups that the KKK hate more were theHomosexuals, the black or non-white people, Catholics, and Non-Christians, people who were not Christians.

4.I think the KKK is still existing because some people are crazy and they like to kill people, and is not bad idea to join this group for some people. There are still a lot of criminals that kill people and thas why some of them join the KKK.

1.       First clan 1865-1870s
              Second clan 1915-1944s
              Third clan since   1946
2.       First clan was at the same time with President Ulysses S. Grant election and   Reconstruction Act was passed by Congress. The second time period was at the same time with First World War and Second World War started. They could legally have their marks and symbols. And The Third Clan was when Congress passed Civil Rights.
3.       First Clan attacked African Americans and also poor white people. So minorities.
Second clan attacked communists, immigrants , jews , socialists ,Roman Catholics.
4.       I think KKK still exist today because they still have many followers. And there are some different organizations  but  they are called different way. For example skinheads. Some people still in organization like KKK because of many reasons like: they are sad, that south lost; they have roots from KKK.
