DIADA OF CATALONIA

What is La Diada?
Is the national day of Catalonia. It commemorates the defeat of the Catalan troops during the war of the Spanish Succession,(troop of the Philip V of Spain on 11 September 1714).
The holiday was officially reinstated in 1980 by the autonomus governing body of Catalonia the Generalitat de Catalonia.

What do people traditionally do on this public holiday?
Independentist organizations and political parties traditionally lay floral offerings at the monuments of the leaders of the defense of the city Rafael Casanova and General Moragues for their fight against the king Philip V of Spain.
Also is traditionally that they go to walk with a torches on the Fossar de les Moreres.
Some peoples put out their flags on their balcony.

Two flags are traditionally seen on La Diada . What are their names in Catalan and what is the difference between them?

Senyera

Estelada

The difference between the senyera and estelada is that the Senyera is the flag of Catalonia, and Estalada is the flag of Catalans people that are Independents.

What connections do you think there may be with La Diada and the American Revolution which?

Catalonia and American Revolution the two of them wanted to be independents. The two of them were fighting to be independents.

1 and 2 : La Diada is the national day of Catalonia. On this day, protests take place for freedom for the `state´ of Catalonia. They also celebrate the fact that they are Catalan, and that it is an honour.

3. The first flag is the traditional Catalan flag and this is the one that is used in Spain because at the moment it is part of Catalonia. The second flag is the flag that is used by people that protest against Catalonia being a part of Spain, used by people that want independence.

PREDICT : I think the connection between La Diada and The American Revolution is that at this time, people would protest for freedom and independence.

Question 3: There are two flags that are used to represent Catalonia. The traditional one is ' The Senyera '. This flag just has consecutive lines, positioned horizontally, and are the colour yellow to red. The second flag is called ' The Estelada ' , this flag is used by people protesting for the independence of Catalonia. The flag includes a star that is surrounded by a blue background. But it still includes yellow and red lines, horizontally placed.

Question 1and 2: La Diada is a national celebration of Catalonia. On this day people protest for Catalonia's freedom from Spain. They also march to show they are proud of being Catalan.

Question 3: There are two flags named The Senyera and The Estalada
used to represent Catalonia. The Senyera has five yellow lines and four red lines. The Estalada has the same five yellow lines and four red lines but it also has a blue triangle with the star inside. This flag is seen more in protests.

Predict: I predict the relationship between La Diada and The American Revolution is that many people in those times rebelled for freedom.

Dear: Mr. Lee Hendricks
I am Jordi Ferrer Ramos. My nationality is Spanish, and I am 12 years old, moreover my birthday is in the 10th of December. I have studied, history five years in the British School of Barcelona, and now I am starting a new year in the ESIS, where history is included and studied as a subject.
My two historical question that I would like to know the answer are this; “How many presidents have there been in the history of the United States?
Why is Barack Obama the president of United Estates instead of anyone else?”

SINCERALY, Jordi Ferrer
