Back to Africa

Our African map in the classroom needs to be finished as some of your country drawings were too messy or not to scale. So if your country has not been featured on the wall, that means that is was rejected for display.

Those who do not have their African country on the wall also means they received low marks for not following directions from the previous blog post on creating a African country.

This week's blog is a blog of persuasion. Persuasion is the act of convincing or changing someone else's mind, opinion, beliefs, or actions. Take a look at the photo of the apple. How do you interpret it? Is the apple on the left persuading the apple on the right to be happy? Or is the apple on the right persuading the other apple that he or she is "happy" even when it is not the case? Both interpretations are matters of persuasion.

Now, go back to your African country and persuade me that your country is the best in the class to visit. There are over 50 African countries to choose from for my next holiday. Will I pick yours?

Your blog post this week should:

  • be a minimum of 100 words in length
  • feature the best highlights in your African country (the climate, people, food, music, sports, animals, national parks, monuments, etc.)
  • be creative and of course, persuasive!

If your country has had problems with natural disasters, famine, civil war, or political problems, you will have to be even more convincing as I may not want to go there. Show the very best side to your country for me to consider it. Remember, it does not matter how small or big your country is, there is always something you can find that could bring an adventurous tourist like me to come and visit.

Good luck to persuade me to visit your African country!

Dear Mr Hendricks

My reason for this message is to persuade you to visit Algeria. Now I know Algeria doesnt sound the most amazing place in the world but when you see the real country you'll see how amazing it can be.
First I know there has been a lot of war and all these things but in most parts of Algeria they have been peaceful and are now only a few people holding up banners saying what they want for a better country and world.
The weather for a start is lovely sunny and warm in the summer so not to hot and not cold, the winter yes has quite a bit of rain but there are still a lot or indoors activities to do whilst u stay here.
Out in Algeria there are great monuments to see such as Martyrs, the building that marks the skyline of Algeria, also the Timgad a small theatre in Timgad that was built in 1800s, it is old and small but a popular tourist destination. People love to go there they get the real feeling of the play and some old and new plays are shown.
The food out there in Algeria is nothing you will ever have tasted, like the french but better, the Algerians learnt how to cook from the french themselves. Tomatoes, potatoes, zucchini and chillies are the four main vegetables grown. The chillies are hot and add a lot of taste to all foods. A lamb stew is a very popular dish in Algeria as well as Moroccan dishes which are an all time popular dish there.
An expirence that you will never forget when visiting Algeria is going to see a wrestling match!. Wrestling is the second biggest sport in the country matchs are on live all the time. A good experience that you wouldn't be able to do in Europe.
One of the best out doors experiences is going to Assekrem which is a place in Algeria were you can go walking up mountains or dunes, camping over night on top then waking up at dawn and watching the sunrise is something everyone loves to do. The scenic area is beautiful and wildlife is all around.
All kinds of animals live in Algeria and although many are going extinct the countries people are very keen to keep them alive and safe. Charities are set up and people love to help and go on tours of parks.
Algeria is a great place to visit everyone should go.

The republic Libya settles down in a northern part of Africa and is one of the largest countries on a planet on the occupied territory. The state shares on three regions, each of which has the features. The western coast of the country, Tripolitania, lasts along picturesque open spaces of the Mediterranean and has two first class beach resorts: Tripoli and Misurata. East region of Libya, Cyrenaica, is known for the sandy deserts. The southern region of the republic, Fezzan, the sandy Sahara Desert, with numerous oases and heated from scorching beams of the sun, sand borrows.

Many countries of Africa, depending on the site, have the climatic and geographical features. Libya, 90 which percent of the territory occupy deserts, differs an abundance of sandy storms and high temperature of air in summertime. At the beginning of the twentieth century, in the region Tripolitania the maximum temperature, +58 degrees was fixed. And if in Cyrenaica and Fezzan climate very dry, with a rare amount of precipitation, to the Mediterranean is more damp and rains happen much more often. Interesting feature of Libya являелся color of its flag which represented a continuous green panel without any symbols and signs (on November 11 1977 — on October 22 2011). In one country of the world of similar analogs wasn't. Now the Flag of the Libyan Republic represents a red and black and green panel with a white half moon and a star.

From all African states, Libya one of the most inconsistent. On the one hand the state has fine possibilities for development of tourism and economy growth, considering what stocks of oil the republic, with another, regular national excitements which often lead to mass riots and military coups is rich. And though the resorts of Tripoli and Misurata aren't the excitement centers, unlike regions Fezzan and Cyrenaica, a certain intensity invisibly is present and there.

As the history of Libya is extremely rich with events and originates in an extreme antiquity, in its territory many historical sights, including ruins of ancient Roman structures and Phoenician temples settle down. Among the most known buildings of old years of construction Apollo's Temple, in the city the Siren, the Triumphal arch Septima Sevra in Leptis-Magn and a mosque Ahmad pasha Karamanli, in Tripoli is allocated. Except these places, in the cities of Libya the set of other important sights, which majority belong to the period of board of the Roman Empire.

Libya

As well as all coastal countries of Africa, Libya has magnificent sandy beaches and the modern hotels stretched along the western coast of the Libyan sea.

Dear Bekkhan,

It is evident that the information is translated as the words are not your own. "Picturesque," "scorching," and "coups" are not your words. If you wish to cite (or "quote") a website, please include the weblink and "quotations" around facts and information directly quoted from the webpage.

Also, a Russian word "являелся" is evident in your translation, so it is important to read out your work out loud before posting. The whole word can see your work, and these words are not Bekkhan's. The words below, "Visit my country Lybia please you didn't saw better country that Lybia" are cleary your voice.

Your voice is needed to be persuasive, not just information!

-Mr. H.

Dear Mr. Hendricks
I want you to visit Western Sahara because of following the reasons:
I have read alot about Western Sahara that it is a very poor country. There is no fresh water and not much food. There is alot of sand, almost no mountains and there are not many animals.
Alot of people speak French and Spanish beacuse it was a Spanish colony.
You could visit some schools and make a program so the kids learn allot and they can change their lifes when they grow up.
The schools in the country do not have so much money. You could go to my country and help them change their lives.
We would need to collect money at all international schools to help with your program.
Later the grown up children could try to get independence.
Sincerely,

Julia
